Orange Fleshed Sweetpotato (OFSP) is a variety of sweetpotato that contains essential beta -carotene in large quantities. The body converts beta-carotene to Vitamin A which is greatly needed by the Body to boost immunity.
The bio-fortified sweet potato (OFSP) is especially recommended for children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, HIV/AIDS patients and Diabetic patients to boost their health status. This is why it has been commended by UNICEF, GAIN, Bill Gate Foundation, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and other related bodies for use in the school feeding programme and in IDP's Camp.
The crop has the potential yield of about 25 tons per ha and it can do well in 36 states and the FCT in Nigeria.

ReplyDeleteOrange fleshed sweet potato is rarely seen in the markets. As it is more productive and nutritionally beneficial am interested in cultivating it.
